Molly Smyth - Delays Not Colours

Molly Smyth - Delays Not Colours
LuckyPDF @ UNITY
39 Peckham High Street
SE15 5EB

p.v. Monday 2 March 2009 6 - 9 pm
3 March 2009 2 - 8 pm
4 March 2009 12 - 5 pm

For the third in our series of exhibitions at the UNITY centre, LuckyPDF presents Delays Not Colours, an installation of new sculptural work by Molly Smyth.

Molly’s forms cite their origin as the indeterminate spaces of the city and the structures and constructions that fill them. It is in the gaps between streets and buildings that our interactions with the the city take place, a space we share with
parked cars, building sites, skips and scaffolding. This show intends a display of her sculpture that will create fluctuations between obscurity and signals, violence and recovery.

Delays Not Colours is the attempt to make the presence within these works available and tangible to the viewer, when something about the sculptures’ mutual future is on the point of being decided and there is recognition of irreparable damage underway.

Help clear The Spike

From: info@spikesurplus.org

Hi there everyone,
I suspect you’ve all heard by now that at 7am on Thursday 12th February, 20 odd coppers, Southwark’s property department, some bailiffs, and 4 big noisy dogs turned up and suddenly we found ourselves on the wrong side of the gates. The on-site security (with the big dogs) seem regretful of the situation and have been letting us on site to get stuff sorted. Tomorrow we have more time. There is still lots of good stuff that we haven’t get found homes for… do any social centres want to take on the free shop? Got a vehicle? Any community gardens etc wanting plants, pots, outside furniture etc? There’s material, costumes, card, paper, some plants, pots, sofa’s, tables, chairs, wood, old tools, fire extinguishers, cushions and more. Please get in touch seriously asap if you want to provide a home for any of this. Oh, and if you want to buy a Spike t-shirt for a tenner, get in touch on the email and we’ll arrange something.

You may still feel to campaign to keep the Spike as a community space as it has been for 160 years. English Heritage should really list the place to protect the building but there’s little time for this.

Hope we all get to gather again soon. We’ll let you know as soon as our services are re-housed.
Best wishes,

Spike

The Spike has been evicted

It’s been on the cards for a while, but despite the court saying The Spike would be given 2 weeks notice of eviction the police and bailiffs arrived unnanounced at 7am this morning.

The residents have been told they can enter on Monday, one person at a time, and recover their belongings.

Mobile Conference

A peripheral event to the Tate Triennial 2009

Sunday 15 March 2009, 12.30-6pm
Various locations, South London

Mobile Conference is a playful off-site tour of artist projects in South London, organised by Peckham Space and South London Gallery as a peripheral ‘fringe’ event in association with the Tate Triennial 2009.

The tour takes place across four different venues including an art college (Camberwell College of Arts), a housing estate (Sceaux Gardens), a library (Peckham Library) and a pub (The Bun House).

Mobile Conference aims to provoke responses from the audience and invited speakers on the relationship between play, democracy and contemporary art in the public realm.

Artists Harold Offeh, Jessica Thom and The People Speak will be located at the various venues in conversation with Demos, the think tank for everyday democracy. An open discussion addressing the wider themes of these artists’ practices will follow at the award winning Peckham Library.

Participants are invited to join the artists and speakers for food and drink at the Bun House.

Free, booking required
