Have I Got Pecknam for You

The area was namechecked on the xmas episode of Have I Got News for You, their photo story round-up at the end of the show included:

bendysanta.JPG
“At a shopping centre in Peckham, Father Christmas regrets telling a 12 year-old gang leader he can’t have the latest Playstation.”

Should we be laughing while the media associates our area with gangs (again)? Could I ask a more obvious question?

In fact what I’d really like to know is:

  • was the bendy Santa actually photographed here (Peckham Square perhaps?)
  • and WHY DOESN’T HE HAVE A BEARD?!  All the SE15 Santas I know would consider this grounds for a brussel sprout pelting.

Sad days at the Spike

Saddest email I’ve had all year:

 Hi there everyone,

I don’t know if you’ve heard the news but we’re sad to say that the Council now have a possession order for the premises.

Sorry we didn’t let everyone know details about the court case but we expected it to be adjourned as it was only scheduled for 15 minutes. The judge actually decided to bash it out there and then and although understood what goes on at Spike, he said that it was a simple matter of the Council owning the land and now they want it back.
At the beginning of the week we’d given the Council a proposal to give them 15 grand up front (non refundable), increased to 5% on valuation (also non-refundable) and the remaining within a year. They “utterly rejected” it.
So they proceeded with the court-case and now it seems we must get packing.

We’re having a small solstice gathering this Sunday evening for all those who’ve been involved in the project. Bring food (vege) and your good selves.

If you can, please take 5 minutes to send letters of protest to the press and Councillors as you see fit. Contacts are below and attached is the official press release.

We’ll be in touch.

Best wishes
