Infinite Livez & Roots Manuva

Infinite Livez

Want a strange night out? This is for you.

Big Baba’s Dada Yaga Hut
July 30th 7.30 - 12
£6 advance or free before 9

July 30th sees one of the best live shows in town make its way to Corsica Studios. Part MC, part living art project, Infinite Livez has been causing waves of hilarity, revulsion and exhilaration since he debuted on Big Dada with “Pononee Girl”.

In Swiss electronics/improv duo Stade (plus the incredible vocal stylings of Joy Frempong) he has found his ideal live collaborators. Their two albums only hint at the madness that develops at their live shows, as they build whole new tracks from triggered samples, voices and effects. It’s a little like watching Kool Keith jamming with 70s-era Miles Davis, only wilder. And, for one night only, Inf and Stade will be joined onstage by a Very Special Guest - a regular at all their shows who has finally been persuaded to grab a microphone alongisde them for a one-off, truly unmissable collaboration.

If you’re not excited yet, you should be for it is the one and only Roots Manuva himself!!! . Support on the night will be provided by new Big Dada signing Speech Debelle. The first female MC to get a deal with the veteran label, Speech uses a troubled background as a springboard for fragile, achingly honest rap-narratives of self-loathing, fear and hope. Only too happy to rock the mic, tonight she will present an acoustic set and showcase tracks from her forthcoming album. Throw in DJ business from the one and only Jamie Big Dada and you have a sparkling Big Dada night to remember….

Consume Peckham

Just noticed that as well as I Love Peckham there’s an art festival running this week - Consume Peckham. Lots of things happening in pubs and shop windows, definitely worth a look.

We like the bossa nova

Nouvelle Vague

We saw Nouvelle Vague on South Bank last Sunday, as part of the Coin Street bossa nova festival. They were magical, have an MP3: nouvelle_vague-blue_monday.mp3

Zeep (formerly Smoke City)

Also was pleased to catch Smoke City (who’re now called Zeep) performing Underwater Love. Very apt lyrics for the weather that day!

I Love Peckham festival

I Love Peckham logo

It’s not been a year, surely? Well no, not quite - here’s the slightly-earlier-than-you-may-have-expected I LOVE PECKHAM festival programme. Don’t miss the street party (featuring Needleandthread stage) on Rye Lane/Peckham Square, or the closing event in the Bussey building!
