FEBRUARY 27TH 2008

FAMILY BATTLE SNAKE
Striving for that late night monster psych jive…Heavy telepathetic improvisations, dipped in a hazy psychedelic mayhem, from lulling numbness to fierce noise outbreaks.

LADYSCRAPER
Both brutal and good-natured, dark yet optimistic. It’s a new sort of super-dark sound with a silver lining. We’re pleased as hell with it!!

JOHN WALL
His working process is to reconfigure some of the more abrasive shards of modern classical music. He splices them hard up against an explosive soundbite from metalers Carcass or free-improv from the Derek Bailey school of thought, often parallel mixing these sample arrangements against improvisations record from instrumentalists in his studio.

The Scaredycats played {needleandthread} at Brixton Jamm last Friday, they were (and I’m assuming still are) amazing! Jumparound ska in fine form. I’ll be hassling them for some tracks to post up here.

They’re playing a free gig at the New Cross Inn on Wednesday, here’s the flyer:

Quickflick London flies into 2008 – our fifth festival year in the UK – with a huge Thursday night on 7 Feb in Roxy Bar and Screen, including short films about Tarantino, Temptation and a live performance by Dreamsound Ltd to entertain, delight and fill you with some mid-winter Joy.

Show kicks off with the Tarantino Showcase – featuring Quickflicks from Brazil, Germany, Argentina, and the UK in a global homage to Quentin. Following that, we’ll show London filmmakers’ latest creations for the theme ‘Temptation’. The audience will vote for their favorite new film and that ‘Golden Quickie’ winner will bask in the glory of your approval as well as winning free Z1 camera hire from VMI, a Raindance course and film clinic from Lux Monkey. Mix this with a live set from Dreamsound Ltd, more aural pleasures with DJ Jem, VJ’d treats from Fat Butcher and we have a great evening awaiting you!

QfW is a unique global short film festival dedicated to inspiring and giving filmmakers a platform to learn by doing and show off their creativity. At the same time, watching shorts on the same theme from around the world helps us celebrate our differences rather than fear them.

Now you’re tempted… catch you at Roxy on Thursday, 7 Feb!
